The Japanese Association of Historical Botany was established to clarify issues in historical botany and various related fields such as botany, geology, geography, and archaeology. This association started as a forum in 1986 and became an association in 1996. Through discussion by researchers from various fields on such matters as ecology, palaeoecolgy, environmental change, human-plant relationship, plant taxonomy, phylogeny, and phytogeography, we aim to understand historical botany comprehensively.
The association currently has a member ship of about 400, publishes the Japanese Journal of Historical Botany biannually, organizes an annual meeting in autumn, and have forums once or twice a year.
