About the Association

The Japanese Association of Historical Botany was established to clarify vegetation
history and related historical botany issues in botany, ecology, geology, geography,
archaeology, etc. This association started as a forum in 1986 and became an
association in 1996. We aim to understand historical botany comprehensively
through discussion by researchers from various fields on such matters as ecology,
palaeoecology, environmental change, human-plant relationship, plant taxonomy,
phylogeny, and phytogeography.

The association currently has a membership of about 400, publishes the Japanese
Journal of Historical Botany biannually, organizes an annual meeting in autumn and
has forums once or twice a year.
